MediRoutes Deploys Machine Learning to Refine NEMT Scheduling
Non-emergency medical transportation providers are shifting away from generic mapping tools toward data-driven scheduling. MediRoutes has launched a new Predictive ETAs feature, utilizing two decades of granular GPS history to forecast travel times based on actual vehicle performance rather than theoretical road speeds.

Standard map applications focus strictly on drive time, often ignoring the nuances of medical transport such as wheelchair securement, patient boarding, and facility wait times. By collecting GPS data every five seconds across more than 100 million trips since 2008, the MediRoutes system calculates estimates that account for specific days of the week, traffic patterns, and real-world loading delays. According to CEO David Reinkensmeyer, the goal is to provide dispatchers with a schedule they can actually deliver on.
This technology transforms GPS records from a mere compliance requirement for brokers like ModivCare and MTM into a functional scheduling advantage. By analyzing how routes perform on a Tuesday morning versus a Friday afternoon, the software allows operators to accept or decline trips with greater precision. The update is currently rolling out within the MediRoutes platform, aiming to reduce operational guesswork for providers and improve arrival transparency for clinics and passengers alike.
