Apple Opens Preorders for S10-Powered HomePod Mini 2
Priced at $149, the successor to Apple’s compact smart speaker arrives on October 30th with a significant internal upgrade. The device, available for preorder starting today, bridges the gap between basic audio playback and the company's evolving artificial intelligence integration, marking the first hardware refresh in nearly six years.
At the heart of the new unit lies the S10 chip, a processor shared with the Apple Watch Series 10. This silicon upgrade provides the necessary overhead for future Siri AI features, which will roll out via a software update. Beyond its internal processing power, the speaker expands its role in the Apple ecosystem by integrating into four-speaker surround sound configurations alongside the latest Apple TV 4K. It also functions as a dedicated output device for Mac computers equipped with Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
Visual feedback receives a functional update as well. The top-mounted LED array now dynamically adjusts its pattern to reflect the album artwork of the currently playing track. This hardware revision attempts to move the HomePod Mini from a peripheral-only status toward a more central role in home entertainment, provided users remain deeply invested in the surrounding Apple hardware architecture.
