Ukrainian Drone Strikes Fail to Silence Russian Troll Farms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently claimed that drone strikes against Yandex data centers significantly crippled Russian disinformation efforts, citing a noticeable decline in online hate and provocation. However, data from independent researchers suggests this narrative of a digital victory is itself a product of misinformation.

While social media users have reported a perceived reduction in spam and political activity linked to far-right groups like Germany's AfD or MAGA-affiliated accounts, the technical reality tells a different story. Analysts confirm the strikes primarily impacted Yandex web crawlers rather than the infrastructure supporting state-sponsored troll farms. The account antibot4navalny, which monitors Kremlin-aligned influence operations, reports that bot traffic remains steady and persistent.
Contradicting the president’s optimistic assessment, Danish analyst Valdemar Osted noted that engagement on polarizing accounts actually surged following the strikes. Furthermore, the circulating charts purportedly documenting a sudden collapse in bot activity appear to be AI-generated fabrications. The rapid spread of the belief that these military actions successfully neutralized Russian propaganda serves as an ironic example of the very disinformation ecosystem that remains fully operational.
