Avcon Secures FAA Approval for Honeywell MKV-A EGPWS Upgrades
Avcon Industries has secured Federal Aviation Administration certification to install the Honeywell Aerospace MKV-A Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System across a wide range of Bombardier and Learjet aircraft. This approval offers operators a direct replacement path for aging navigation hardware while mitigating risks like GPS spoofing.

The new Supplemental Type Certificate, designated STC No. ST12439CH, covers the Learjet 40, 45, and 60 models, alongside various Bombardier Challenger and Global series airframes. Designed as a drop-in solution, the MKV-A hardware utilizes existing avionics racks to minimize downtime during installation. The system improves upon the legacy Mark V computer by providing higher resolution databases and increased resilience against signal interference.
Marcus Abendroth, President of Avcon, noted that the upgrade addresses mounting obsolescence concerns for operators of these business aircraft. The company is currently seeking validation for the certification from international regulators, including Transport Canada, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, and the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Installations can be performed at the firm's New Century, Kansas facility or through qualified third-party avionics centers.
