Sidel Unveils EvoDECO Next to Slash Label Material Usage

By integrating partial-labelling technology directly into its roll-fed machinery, Sidel is targeting a 75% reduction in label surface area. The new EvoDECO Next platform promises high-volume producers substantial material savings and lower carbon footprints, effectively decoupling industrial output speed from the volume of plastic film required for packaging.

The system reconfigures the standard wraparound approach by utilizing a rotary cutting device mounted on the transfer drum. This allows for shorter labels—configured at 90° or 180°—without compromising line performance. For a facility producing 61,000 bottles per hour, Sidel estimates that a 90° partial-label shift could eliminate 208.4 tonnes of BOPP consumption annually, alongside a reduction of 346 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Technological refinements underpin these gains. The platform incorporates a Smart Buffer to maintain nominal production speeds during reel changes, and a Smart Camera system that eliminates the need for traditional reference marks. According to Anne Philippe Lafon, Product Manager at Sidel, this architecture removes the historical trade-off between industrial efficiency and branding flexibility. By integrating these components, the company aims to reduce total cost of ownership while supporting its broader JUST label initiative.
