i-80 Gold reshuffles Nevada development plan to prioritize Mineral Point
Facing a shifting landscape of mineral resource expansion, i-80 Gold Corp. has moved to prioritize the Mineral Point open pit project as its next major growth engine. The strategic pivot aims to capitalize on large-scale oxide resources while sequencing underground refractory feed projects to align with the upcoming Lone Tree processing hub.

The company’s updated roadmap keeps the Archimedes underground mine and Lone Tree plant refurbishment on their original schedules. Archimedes is slated to begin production mining in the fourth quarter of 2026, while the Lone Tree facility, which serves as the central processing hub for the company's Nevada operations, expects its first gold pour by the end of 2027. By adjusting the sequence of medium-to-long-term projects, management intends to unlock the value of the Mineral Point open pit—the company's largest asset—before fully developing the Granite Creek open pit.
This decision stems from recent exploration successes at the Granite Creek and Archimedes underground projects, where resource expansion has extended the projected life of these sites. Because these mines can now supply refractory feed to Lone Tree for a longer duration than initially anticipated, the company has deferred the development of the Cove underground project. The updated plan targets an initial annual production of 150,000 to 200,000 ounces of gold starting in 2028, with a long-term goal of reaching 500,000 to 600,000 ounces annually by the early 2030s as the Mineral Point and Granite Creek open pit projects come online.
