FDA Accepts Resubmission for Tabelecleucel in Rare Lymphoma Treatment

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted the Biologics License Application resubmission for tabelecleucel, an investigational immunotherapy for patients with Epstein-Barr virus-positive post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease. If authorized, the drug would become the first FDA-approved treatment for patients facing this aggressive, life-threatening malignancy after transplant failure.

Pierre Fabre Pharmaceuticals set a target action date of March 31, 2027, for the regulatory decision. The resubmitted application incorporates an expanded dataset from the pivotal Phase 3 ALLELE study, featuring additional patients and extended follow-up periods. These clinical findings are bolstered by supplemental data derived from early access programs and established commercial use in Europe, where the therapy is already authorized under the brand name EBVALLO.

EBV+ PTLD remains an ultra-rare condition that strikes patients following hematopoietic cell or solid organ transplants, when immunosuppression hampers T-cell activity. Without effective secondary therapies, median survival for these patients is often limited to a few weeks or months. Adriana Herrera, CEO of Pierre Fabre Pharmaceuticals in the U.S., noted that the company aligned the new submission with requirements identified during an April 2026 meeting with federal regulators to address the urgent need for new options in this high-risk population.
