Epic Games Targets Linux Support for Fortnite
Years of hesitation regarding cheating vulnerabilities are finally yielding to technical development, as Epic Games confirms plans to bring Fortnite to the Linux platform. The company is currently rebuilding its Easy Anti-Cheat service to ensure security across diverse kernel configurations, a move that could eventually open the game to wider distribution.

The path to a Linux release hinges on the successful rollout of EAC Linux v2. Epic engineering director Rick Deist confirmed that this upgraded anti-cheat software will undergo a pilot phase within Fortnite before being offered to other developers. By collaborating with distribution maintainers to meet stringent security requirements, the company aims to resolve the scaling issues that previously kept the battle royale title off the platform.
While the project signals a shift in strategy, Epic remains cautious about the timeline. Rick Deist noted that no specific release date is currently set for the Linux version. Furthermore, while the team is investigating compatibility with Valve’s SteamOS, Epic Games Store VP Martin Keely clarified that the company has no intention of listing Fortnite on the Steam store, keeping the game exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher.
