Emerging Therapies Poised to Reshape Cocaine Use Disorder Treatment

The global market for cocaine use disorder treatments is set for significant expansion through 2036, driven by a surge in clinical innovation. With no FDA-approved pharmacological therapies currently available, pharmaceutical developers are racing to address a massive unmet medical need for patients struggling with addiction and relapse.

The total market value for cocaine use disorder treatments reached approximately USD 55 million in 2025 across seven major markets, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the EU4. Analysts expect this figure to climb steadily as the prevalence of the condition rises and new, targeted drugs move through the pipeline. Currently, medical practitioners rely primarily on off-label treatments, such as antidepressants and dopamine-blocking agents, which have yet to establish a standardized level of care.

Several companies are now pushing deeper into clinical trials to fill this void. Leading candidates include STALICLA’s Mavoglurant, which targets mGluR5 receptors to reduce cravings, and Embera NeuroTherapeutics’ EMB-001, a combination therapy designed to mitigate stress-related relapse. Tempero Bio’s TMP-301 and Omeros Corporation’s OMS527 are also under investigation as researchers seek to modulate the specific neurobiological pathways that govern dependency. As these therapies progress, they aim to offer the first dedicated pharmacological options for a patient population that saw roughly 2.48 million diagnosed cases in 2025 alone.
