HomeView lacks native support for core Apple media apps
Despite marketing HomeView as an ideal hub for its media ecosystem, Apple requires users to stream content via AirPlay from an iPhone for apps like Apple TV, Apple Music Classical, and Apple News Plus. The device lacks native integration for these services, contradicting its promise as a standalone entertainment companion.

The limitation remains puzzling given the hardware specifications. HomeView runs on the A18 chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 16, suggesting the bottleneck is software-based rather than a lack of raw power. Unlike competitors such as Amazon’s Echo Show or Google’s Nest Hub, which offer native streaming for Prime Video and YouTube, HomeView functions more like an extension of the iPhone. Its operating environment mirrors CarPlay, prioritizing a tethered connection over independent app execution.
Promotional materials for the hub prominently feature Apple TV, yet the fine print reveals the necessity of a paired handset. Because the device lacks an App Store, users are effectively locked into the AirPlay workflow. Apple has yet to clarify if this restriction will be lifted through future updates or if the hub is intended to remain a secondary interface for mobile devices rather than a primary media player.
