MacPaw debuts Eney, an AI assistant for Mac and iPhone

MacPaw has launched Eney, a proactive AI assistant designed to operate directly within the macOS and iOS ecosystems. Unlike browser-based chatbots, Eney monitors system activity, file states, and calendar schedules to identify necessary tasks, requiring user approval before executing actions like drafting replies or clearing disk space.

The software addresses a significant adoption gap in the current AI market. While research conducted by MacPaw among U.S. Mac users in mid-2026 revealed that 81% had experimented with AI tools, only 39% integrated those tools into their professional workflows. Eney attempts to bridge this by acting as a persistent, non-autonomous colleague that maintains context across common applications like Slack, Notion, Jira, and Apple Mail.

At the core of the experience is Mnemos, a proprietary memory layer that tracks user-specific data and preferences without accessing private files or external application data. The interface relies on the 'Eney Wand' feature, which allows users to trigger context-aware actions—such as translating text, converting currencies, or extracting data from images—by dragging over screen elements. The tool also automates routine system maintenance, including disk space management and crash monitoring, reflecting the company's long-standing focus on Mac utility software. Eney is available for download at eney.ai with a 14-day trial period and requires macOS 15 or later.
