UWorld Adds AI Proctoring to Nursing Platform to Ease Faculty Burden

Nursing programs facing persistent faculty shortages can now deploy automated exam monitoring directly within the UWorld Learning Platform. By integrating Respondus Monitor, the company aims to secure remote assessments while eliminating the need for educators to manually supervise students or coordinate complex proctoring schedules during high-stakes exams.

The integration addresses a critical bottleneck in nursing education, where the American Association of Colleges of Nursing reported a 7.2% full-time faculty vacancy rate for the 2025–26 academic year. By automating the oversight process, the system allows educators to reallocate time from administrative monitoring toward student mentorship and clinical instruction.

Respondus Monitor pairs with the LockDown Browser to restrict unauthorized applications and web access during testing. The system utilizes webcam and microphone recording to flag potential irregularities for faculty review, rather than requiring real-time human observation. According to UWorld Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey A. Elliott, the move is designed to provide the flexibility necessary to manage hybrid learning models without compromising assessment standards.

Programs can leverage existing institutional Respondus licenses or opt for a student-purchase model that covers unlimited proctoring within a single course. Because the technology operates natively within the UWorld environment, students avoid the friction of navigating secondary testing portals, streamlining the assessment experience for both the faculty and the exam-taker.
