Microsoft Optimizes Windows 11 for 8GB RAM Systems
After months of internal overhauls, Microsoft claims Windows 11 now operates with 20 percent greater responsiveness. By refining memory management and resource allocation, the company aims to stabilize the OS experience on hardware with 8GB of RAM, effectively reducing the reliance on slower disk-based storage for active tasks.

Corporate vice president of Windows experiences Navjot Virk noted that the recent updates focus on smarter resource distribution across core components like the Start menu, File Explorer, and Edge. By keeping up to 2GB of data in active memory rather than offloading it to storage, the system retains more overhead for user applications. On entry-level machines, the company implemented a change to Widgets, which now load on demand to free up 200MB of RAM for other processes.
Beyond performance, the update addresses long-standing usability complaints. Users can now reposition the taskbar, while Bluetooth pairing, specifically with AirPods, sees a speed improvement of up to 15 seconds. Microsoft also streamlined the Windows Update process and accelerated Windows Hello sign-in times. Looking forward, the company is testing a revamped Search experience, currently available to Windows Insiders, with a broader release scheduled for later this year.
