Two Fatalities Reported Following Gas Explosion at Intel Chip Plant

Police reports indicate the malfunction took place as trucks were transferring materials into onsite tanks at the high-tech manufacturing hub. The explosion released nitrogen trifluoride, a chemical commonly used in semiconductor fabrication. This tragedy follows a string of industrial accidents across the sector, including a 2024 fatality at a TSMC site in Arizona involving sulfuric acid.

Intel employees have previously raised concerns regarding whether aggressive cost-cutting measures and workforce downsizing have compromised safety standards at their facilities. Authorities are currently reviewing the specific handling procedures at the Kiryat Gat plant to determine if a mechanical failure or human error precipitated the blast.
