AGFUND Secures Global Honor for Inclusive Banking and Social Impact
The Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) clinched the Excellence in Inclusive Banking and Social Impact award at the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals ceremony in Bangkok. The honor highlights two decades of efforts to stabilize underserved communities through microfinance, providing economic leverage to those traditionally ignored by mainstream banking systems.

CEO Hammam bin Nasser bin Juraid accepted the accolade alongside the IMF and World Bank Group meetings. HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz attributed the success to the vision of the organization’s founders, specifically the late Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, whose commitment to human-centric finance remains the network’s core directive. Since launching its first bank in Jordan in 2004, AGFUND has expanded its footprint across nine nations, including Yemen, Palestine, and Sierra Leone.
The network’s operational reach now spans 1.3 million clients, with women accounting for 59 percent of total borrowers. Beyond the 1.5 million loans issued, the organization has facilitated the opening of 927,000 savings accounts through 112 regional branches. With over US$1.37 billion in total financing disbursed, the institution now looks to scale its influence by integrating digital financial products with localized training and risk protection strategies. Future growth centers on expanding this model deeper into the African continent through strategic partnerships.
