Elon Musk floats potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX

The announcement arrived during SpaceX’s third-quarter earnings call, marking the first time the billionaire has publicly acknowledged active discussions regarding a deal. Musk maintains that the final decision rests with the independent committees rather than his own executive discretion, offering no guarantees that a transaction will materialize.

Speculation regarding the tie-up gained momentum earlier this month when Barclays analysts suggested a deal could be unveiled before Tesla’s December 3, 2026, shareholder meeting. Integrating the electric vehicle manufacturer with the aerospace firm would unite two of the most valuable private and public companies under Musk’s control, though the regulatory and structural hurdles for such a combination remain significant.
