Apple Foldable Durability Tested to 11,500 Folds

After subjecting Apple’s latest foldable device to 11,500 repetitive folding cycles, YouTuber Tim Pan discovered that while the hinge mechanism maintains its structural integrity, the screen surface suffers from significant wear. Even in controlled environments, the display shows a permanent, increasingly visible crease that compromises the visual experience.

The testing protocol included a thousand folds performed under freezing temperatures to simulate extreme real-world stress. While the hardware hinge remains robust, the flexible screen panel behaves similarly to competing foldable models on the market. Visible degradation appears as early as the 500th fold, becoming progressively more pronounced regardless of the matte display coating.

These findings mirror earlier assessments by tech journalist Joanna Stern, reinforcing the reality that current folding screen technology continues to struggle with material fatigue. Despite the engineering focus on hinge longevity, the physical crease remains an unavoidable consequence of the folding design, manifesting rapidly even under standard usage conditions.
