Amazon Rebrands Kindle Unlimited as Kindle Plus with AI Integration
Amazon has officially rebranded its Kindle Unlimited subscription service to Kindle Plus, signaling a shift toward broader audiobook integration. While the $11.99 monthly price remains unchanged, the service now incorporates AI-generated narration for thousands of titles, allowing users to transition between reading and listening through a unified digital interface.

The service continues to grant access to a vast catalog of ebooks, comics, and magazines, maintaining the existing policy of borrowing up to 20 titles simultaneously without return deadlines. Amazon spokesperson Josh Pflug confirmed the platform will provide thousands of audiobooks at no additional cost, with the primary technical upgrade being the deployment of "virtual voice" AI narrators. This feature is designed to automatically accompany new titles enrolled in the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) Select program.
Authors retain control over their audio assets, with the option to opt-in legacy titles to the AI narration suite. Beyond synthetic voices, the company is integrating human-narrated works produced through Audible’s Audiobook Creation Exchange marketplace. This expansion is currently restricted to U.S. subscribers, though Amazon has indicated plans to roll out these features to international markets as the infrastructure matures. The subscription remains a standalone product, separate from the broader Amazon Prime ecosystem.
