Pedestrian killed on I-80 by Tesla operating in FSD mode
A 71-year-old man died early Thursday after being struck by a Tesla traveling along I-80 in Vallejo, California. The vehicle, engaged in Full Self-Driving mode at the time of the 2:30 a.m. collision, attempted to swerve and brake before hitting the pedestrian, according to California Highway Patrol dashcam footage.

Investigators believe the man was hit by at least one additional vehicle following the initial impact, though the Tesla driver was the only individual to remain at the scene. The CHP Solano Area office is currently seeking witnesses or further information regarding the incident. This fatality follows a separate crash last week on the same interstate, where a driver reported falling asleep while using the software, leading their vehicle to strike a parked police cruiser. Authorities continue to reiterate that despite the branding of the driver-assist system, it does not function as a fully autonomous technology, and operators remain legally responsible for vehicle control at all times.
