MBSat Taps ST Engineering iDirect for Sovereign Satellite Network in Oman
Oman-based MBSat has selected ST Engineering iDirect to supply the ground infrastructure for its upcoming 2027 satellite service launch. The partnership aims to establish a software-defined network capable of delivering sovereign connectivity across the Middle East, leveraging the capabilities of the company’s forthcoming MB Sat-1 MicroGEO satellite.
The agreement centers on the deployment of a turnkey ground segment solution designed to streamline network operations and service scaling. By utilizing a software-defined platform, MBSat intends to automate resource management and simplify the integration of its gateway infrastructure. The system includes Ka-band support and open API frameworks, allowing the operator to maintain control over its long-term technology roadmap while responding to regional demand.
This infrastructure investment aligns with a broader trend of Middle Eastern operators prioritizing sovereign communications to reduce reliance on external service delivery models. MBSat General Manager Ammar Al Rawahi noted that the collaboration provides the necessary technical foundation to expand into new markets and ensure sustainable growth. ST Engineering iDirect CEO Sridhar Kuppanna emphasized that the modular nature of the ground platform ensures the network can evolve alongside shifting market requirements and future operational needs.
