Trump Pledges Preemptive Pardons to Shield Elon Musk from Inquiry
Donald Trump declared in a podcast interview released Monday that he would issue preemptive pardons for Elon Musk and other allies to protect them from potential congressional investigations should Democrats gain power. The former president brushed off concerns about the move, stating he would not hesitate to shield his associates.

The president’s comments on the Pod Force One podcast arrive as congressional Democrats prepare to scrutinize Musk’s influence during his tenure at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Lawmakers have signaled an intent to examine alleged conflicts of interest, the elimination of over 250,000 federal jobs, and Musk’s access to sensitive government data. Democrats specifically cite the dismantling of the US Agency for International Development as a primary target for future oversight panels.
Musk, the largest political donor in American history, has funneled roughly $445 million into Republican super PACs during the 2026 election cycle. Public Citizen analysts note that his companies have been significant beneficiaries of the administration's decision to cancel at least eight corporate enforcement actions. Trump, who previously suggested he would pardon anyone who came within 200 feet of the Oval Office, framed the potential investigations as a politically motivated effort to arrest his supporters.
