Apple Fails to Predict When iPhone Duo Supply Will Meet Demand

With preorders for the $1,999 foldable already pushed to 2027, Apple remains unable to offer a timeline for normalizing device availability. CEO John Ternus confirmed that the company is struggling to manage the gap between heavy consumer interest and persistent supply chain bottlenecks that have hampered production since last month’s launch.

The iPhone Duo, which debuted with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch folding screen, has faced significant hardware scrutiny alongside its limited availability. Addressing reports of screen failures, Ternus characterized the defects as affecting a very small percentage of units, noting that Apple is actively processing replacements for affected customers.

Beyond production hurdles, Apple is navigating an environment of surging memory costs, which Ternus described as unprecedented during the company’s Q4 2026 earnings call. While the firm has adjusted pricing across its broader lineup to offset these expenses, the financial strain remains a primary focus. Despite these constraints, the company posted record-breaking iPhone revenue of $57.58 billion for the quarter, proving that demand for its hardware ecosystem remains robust even as the brand grapples with a complex manufacturing landscape.
