New York State Extends Funding for Double Up Food Bucks Program

The Field & Fork Network, which manages the initiative, reported a surge in demand as federal food security programs face tightening constraints. Since its inception in 2014, the program has facilitated over $8.2 million in fresh produce purchases and generated $12.2 million in local economic impact. Growth has accelerated rapidly; in 2025 alone, the program matched $4.2 million in SNAP benefits, a 400% increase over the previous year.

Operating across 320 locations in 54 counties, the program is projected to match nearly $6 million in SNAP purchases throughout 2026. CEO Lisa French noted that the consistent state investment provides a necessary foundation for families and farmers during a period of market volatility. The funding was secured through bipartisan support, led by Senators Michelle Hinchey and George Borrello, alongside Assemblymembers Demond Meeks and Angelo Morinello. These officials emphasized that the program serves a dual purpose: expanding access to nutritious food for low-income households while bolstering the regional agricultural economy by directing funds toward local growers.
