Manulife Secures Top AI Maturity Ranking for Second Consecutive Year
For the second year running, Manulife has claimed the top spot among life insurers for AI maturity in the 2026 Evident AI Index. Beyond its industry-leading status in the AI Leadership category, the company now ranks third overall, underscoring a rapid transition from capability building to full-scale enterprise deployment.
The latest Evident index evaluates 30 major insurance firms across North America and Europe, focusing on talent, innovation, leadership, and transparency. Manulife’s performance is anchored by its deliberate scaling of AI-driven tools, such as the Automated Underwriting Decision Engine (MAUDE) in Canada, which slashes decision times for life insurance applications to just two minutes. According to Evident, Manulife currently discloses more active AI use cases than any other insurer in the cohort.
Phil Witherington, President and CEO of Manulife, noted that the firm has already achieved $300 million in enterprise value from these initiatives as of late 2025. The company projects this figure will exceed $1 billion by 2027. This growth is supported by a 41% year-on-year increase in its AI-focused talent pool and a strategic commitment to responsible, governed deployment. Alexandra Mousavizadeh, co-CEO of Evident, highlighted that Manulife’s ability to link AI development directly to core business workflows sets it apart from competitors currently struggling to move beyond the experimental phase.
