Marconi Technologies to Supply Tactical Radios for Polish Military

The Polish military has selected Montreal-based Marconi Technologies and local integrator Enamor International to deploy the Orion X650 tactical radio system. This multi-year contract aims to secure mobile connectivity and 5G-enabled communications infrastructure for forces stationed along NATO’s eastern flank, with deliveries scheduled to commence later this year.

The Orion X650 is a sixth-generation software-defined radio engineered for high-throughput data transmission in contested environments. Featuring four RF ports, the hardware can function as two independent channels or a single 4x4 MIMO configuration to bolster signal resilience. Its deployment will provide a hardened data backbone for Command and Control nodes, allowing forward units to maintain broadband access while operating under the threat of electronic warfare.

This procurement aligns with Poland’s defense modernization goals under the EU’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument. Following successful field trials where the radios were tested on drones, vehicles, and fixed installations, the equipment demonstrated the necessary interoperability and throughput for dispersed operations. Marconi Technologies CEO Alain Cohen noted that the partnership with Enamor International serves as a strategic bridge between Canadian industrial capabilities and Poland’s requirement for sovereign, resilient defense technology. The project is expected to remain a central component of Polish tactical communications upgrades through 2030.
