Fei-Fei Li Moves Beyond Chatbots in New MasterClass Curriculum
The computer scientist whose ImageNet research fueled the deep learning revolution is shifting her focus toward spatial intelligence. Dr. Fei-Fei Li, cofounder of World Labs, has launched a MasterClass series aiming to move public discourse beyond large language models and toward the physical integration of AI in daily life.

Li, often called the Godmother of AI, argues that current fascination with chatbots obscures the next critical frontier: spatial intelligence. This shift involves systems capable of perceiving and navigating three-dimensional environments, a development she believes will reshape fields from robotic surgery to autonomous transit. Her curriculum emphasizes that the current window for influencing AI development remains open, urging public engagement rather than passive observation.
Central to the course is the distinction between automation and human augmentation. Drawing on her experience at Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute, Li demonstrates how technology can alleviate administrative burdens for medical professionals without stripping away essential human judgment. She posits that machine values are merely reflections of their designers, making technical literacy a prerequisite for responsible advocacy. By teaching members to distinguish between hype and foundational shifts, Li hopes to replace widespread technological anxiety with individual agency.
