TGH Behavioral Health Hospital Opens Day Treatment Program

Tampa General Hospital has launched a new partial hospitalization program, providing a bridge for patients who require intensive daily mental health support but do not need overnight inpatient care. The initiative aims to stabilize individuals struggling with mood, anxiety, and behavioral disorders through structured therapeutic intervention.

The program operates daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the TGH Behavioral Health Hospital on West Kennedy Blvd, with plans to extend hours as capacity increases. Designed for those transitioning from inpatient settings or requiring higher support than traditional outpatient care, the service offers a three-to-six-week treatment course. Patients receive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and a mix of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, alongside holistic options like art and pet therapy.

Doug Leonardo, CEO of the hospital, noted that the program allows patients to maintain connections with their families and communities while receiving daily clinical stabilization. To address accessibility barriers, the facility offers free transportation via Uber Health for patients within a 30-mile radius. This expansion follows the hospital's opening in March 2025 as Florida's first freestanding academic behavioral health facility. By July 1, the site will further expand its continuum of care by introducing an Intensive Outpatient Program, offering shorter sessions three days per week to support long-term recovery.
