Taiwanese Biotech Sector Eyes Global Expansion at BIO 2026
Thirty-three Taiwanese biotechnology firms have descended upon San Diego for the BIO International Convention, aiming to cement the island’s status as a premier Asian hub for life sciences. The delegation is showcasing over 40 distinct technologies, ranging from precision medicine and CDMO services to advanced biomanufacturing and digital health solutions.

The presence of the Taiwan Pavilion at the convention comes as the sector hits a significant financial milestone. According to data from the 2025 Biotechnology Industry in Taiwan white paper, the industry generated NT$775.4 billion (US$25 billion) in revenue during 2024. With 147 listed and over-the-counter companies now commanding a combined market value exceeding NT$1.47 trillion, the delegation is looking to leverage this momentum to secure new licensing agreements and clinical collaborations.
Michael Huang, Director of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Promotion Office (BPIPO), emphasized that the event serves as a critical bridge for international integration. The delegation, supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, is hosting a series of targeted sessions throughout the four-day event. These include discussions on chronic disease management, an appearance at the Start-Up Stadium by Vacino Biotech, and a networking reception designed to connect local innovators with global investors and industry stakeholders.
