Space Shuttle Endeavour’s New Home Opens November 2026

The California Science Center has set November 13, 2026, as the grand opening for the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a 200,000-square-foot expansion designed to house the Space Shuttle Endeavour in a vertical, 20-story launch configuration, marking the final phase of a three-decade master plan.

The new facility will stand as the only place globally where visitors can view a complete, authentic space shuttle system in a launch-ready position. Rising nearly 200 feet, the centerpiece Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery will provide an immersive look at the shuttle’s history, including its 135 missions and the engineering behind its thermal protection system. Beyond the shuttle itself, the expansion nearly doubles the center’s exhibit space, incorporating 100 historic artifacts and 100 new interactive experiences across three multi-level galleries.

Visitors will be able to engage with the science of flight through unique, high-intensity exhibits, such as a 140-foot gantry-style elevator ascent and a 45-foot drop slide that simulates the shuttle's atmospheric re-entry. Jeffrey Rudolph, President and CEO of the California Science Center, described the project as the fulfillment of a long-standing mission to inspire future generations of scientists and explorers. While the shuttle stack is already in place, the team faces months of final installation work before the doors open. Although general admission remains free, the center will implement a timed reservation system for the new galleries to manage anticipated high demand.
