EMH Metering and Corinex Link Smart Gateways to Powerline Networks
Vancouver-based Corinex Communications and Germany’s EMH metering have successfully validated Broadband Powerline (BPL) technology for smart grid infrastructure. Testing conducted at Corinex’s Bratislava facility confirms that the CASA Smart Meter Gateway can now transmit data via Corinex’s 1T BPL modem, offering a high-performance alternative to cellular connectivity.

The technical verification proves the interoperability of the CASA gateway with BPL hardware, establishing a stable transmission path for energy measurement data. By utilizing existing electrical distribution lines, the integration allows utilities to bypass the coverage gaps often encountered with traditional mobile network deployments.
Peter Sobotka, CEO of Corinex, characterized the milestone as a foundational step for grid modernization, while EMH metering CEO Peter Heuell noted that the partnership provides customers with a reliable connectivity option for smart meter rollouts. This development addresses specific infrastructure challenges in low and medium-voltage networks, enabling more robust data collection in environments where wireless signal strength remains insufficient.
