David G. Armstrong Tapped to Lead Lakewood-Amedex Nu-3 Clinical Trial
Sarasota-based Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics has appointed Dr. David G. Armstrong, a distinguished surgeon and professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, to serve as Study Chair for its Phase 2a clinical trial of Nu-3, an experimental topical gel targeting infected diabetic foot ulcers.
Dr. Armstrong, widely regarded for his work in limb preservation and wound healing, will also act as a Scientific Advisor to the company. His involvement centers on the evaluation of the Bisphosphocin® antimicrobial class, a novel treatment approach designed to combat infections while mitigating the risks associated with traditional antibiotic resistance.
The Phase 2a study functions as a proof-of-concept trial, testing three distinct concentrations of the Nu-3 gel—2%, 5%, and 10%—to determine safety and efficacy. Data gathered from this trial is intended to provide the foundation for a larger Phase 2b study. According to the company, the collaboration aims to address a critical treatment gap for patients facing the persistent and often severe complications of diabetic foot infections.
