Literacy Intervention NOW! Programs Secures Multi-State Approval
As U.S. reading proficiency hits a decade-long low, the live online intervention service NOW! Programs® has secured state-authorized vendor status in Missouri. The program, which utilizes research funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, offers high-dosage literacy tutoring to students currently struggling to meet grade-level benchmarks.

The expansion follows recent findings from researchers at Harvard, Stanford, and Dartmouth, confirming that reading achievement has declined in 83 percent of U.S. school districts over the last ten years. Unlike traditional phonics-heavy curricula, the system focuses on foundational speech processing—training students in phonological awareness before introducing letters or spelling. Dr. Tim Conway, the program's founder and a neuropsychology researcher, argues that many students labeled as resistant to intervention are simply missing these core auditory skills.
Beyond Missouri, the service is now an approved vendor in Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Boston, and select Texas districts. Furthermore, families in 15 states can access the instruction through Education Savings Account (ESA) programs, which provide annual awards ranging from roughly $4,900 to $20,000. Internal data from NICHD-funded trials indicates that the approach allows many students to advance multiple grade levels within a single academic year, with approximately 40 percent of participants eventually meeting criteria to exit special education reading services.
