Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library to Open in North Dakota Badlands

Designed by the architecture firm Snøhetta, the institution serves as more than a standard museum. It is integrated into the landscape that Roosevelt famously credited with shaping his identity, leadership style, and conservation ethic. Visitors will find a facility that combines immersive storytelling with interactive technology, tracing the 26th president’s evolution from a young rancher to a national leader.

The grand opening functions as the centerpiece of Medora’s America 250 festivities, which include live entertainment, patriotic programming, and an Independence Day drone show. According to Sara Otte Coleman, director of North Dakota Tourism, the project represents a historic milestone that invites the public to explore the specific environments that defined Roosevelt’s life. Beyond the library itself, the state is promoting a broader "Teddy Trail," connecting travelers to significant sites including the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Maltese Cross Cabin, and the Rough Rider Hall of Fame in Bismarck. The library is intended to function as a year-round destination for those seeking to engage with the values of citizenship and public service.
