Framework Laptop 13 Pro price adjustments amid component volatility

Customers awaiting the Framework Laptop 13 Pro are seeing a mixed financial forecast as the company secures better storage deals while preparing for impending CPU price hikes. While initial preorders will benefit from upgraded SSD capacity at lower costs, future configurations face looming surcharges due to broader market instability.

Framework confirmed on Thursday that a new supply agreement with Adata allows for a significant storage upgrade for existing preorders. Customers who opted for the 500GB SSD configuration will now receive a 1TB PCIe Gen 5 drive at a reduced price point. The company is also expanding its storage options to include 1TB and 2TB drives for upcoming orders, though these additions have yet to appear in the DIY configurator.

Despite these storage savings, the broader hardware landscape remains volatile. Framework management warned that rising CPU costs will likely force a price increase for new Laptop 13 Pro systems in the coming weeks. This trend mirrors recent hardware inflation seen across the industry, including adjustments to Apple and Xbox pricing. These shifts follow a series of earlier setbacks for the product; originally slated for a June release, the Laptop 13 Pro was delayed until July to address technical challenges with its custom display and haptic touchpad.
