DEEPX and Sixfab Bring Edge AI Acceleration to Raspberry Pi 5

Robotics and industrial automation are moving away from the cloud as DEEPX and Sixfab unveil the AI HAT+, a hardware expansion board for the Raspberry Pi 5. By integrating proprietary NPU technology, the device enables real-time physical AI inference directly on the edge, bypassing the latency of traditional remote data centers.

The collaboration marks a shift in how developers approach high-performance computing in power-constrained environments. By leveraging DEEPX’s ultra-low-power neural processing units, the HAT+ allows the Raspberry Pi 5 to handle complex AI models locally. This capability is targeted at specific sectors, including smart agriculture, factory automation, and robotics, where immediate data processing is vital for operational safety and efficiency.

Roger Thornton, Director of Applications at Raspberry Pi, noted that the module provides a scalable path for enterprise developers and makers to deploy edge applications. To support this, DEEPX is distributing a developer-focused package that includes optimized SDKs, designed to simplify model compilation and deployment for those using the new hardware. Lokwon Kim, CEO of DEEPX, emphasized that the initiative aims to decentralize AI processing, moving intelligence from the cloud to the billions of industrial endpoints currently operating in the field. The board will be available through authorized global distribution channels as the companies look toward further integration of their technologies.
