Five Global Institutions Awarded 2026 EBSCO Solar Grants

The recipients include three public libraries in the United States—Black River Falls in Wisconsin, Cornwall in New York, and Newburgh Chandler in Indiana—alongside Lupane State University in Zimbabwe and the University of Galway in Ireland. Each institution plans to use the capital to integrate renewable energy into their core operations, ranging from rooftop solar arrays to battery backup systems.

For the Black River Falls Public Library, the project is designed to cover approximately 85% of annual energy needs, serving as a hub for community-wide education on renewable technology. In Zimbabwe, Lupane State University intends to use the grant to secure reliable power, ensuring that students and researchers maintain uninterrupted access to digital resources. Similarly, the University of Galway is incorporating the technology into its new Dr Karen Guinee Library, aligning the building's infrastructure with the university's broader environmental objectives. By restoring existing solar setups or building new capacity, these institutions aim to transform their facilities into visible, functioning examples of environmental stewardship.
