TETRA Technologies Debuts Low-Zinc Deepwater Completion Fluid

TETRA Technologies has unveiled its Neptune Z-Lite completion fluid, a high-density solution that slashes zinc-ion concentrations by up to 60%. The company secured its first major application for the technology, winning a three-well contract for Beacon Offshore Energy’s deepwater Shenandoah and Monument projects in the Gulf of America.

The new fluid system, capable of reaching densities up to 17.5 ppg, is engineered to address the technical demands of high-pressure, high-temperature reservoirs. By minimizing zinc-ion levels, the product aims to mitigate refinery exposure and limit zinc returns from the wellbore. TETRA Technologies CEO Brady Murphy noted that the proprietary chemistry improves corrosion performance while simplifying handling requirements across production facilities.

Designed to be solids-free and thermally stable, the fluid is compatible with standard elastomers and existing formation fluids. Operators can also recycle the brine using standard field equipment. The three-well program for Beacon Offshore Energy is scheduled to commence in 2026, marking a strategic push by TETRA to lower life-cycle well costs in the competitive offshore sector.
