Missouri Franchise Owner Honored for Restoring Home for Terminally Ill Veteran

When John Collins, a PuroClean franchise owner in Lee's Summit, Missouri, offered to fix a local family's home, he expected a routine repair. He soon discovered the husband was battling cancer and desperate to ensure his wife’s future stability, prompting Collins to commit months of labor to fulfill that final wish.

The project quickly grew in scope after Collins, a U.S. Navy veteran, began work. He encountered complex property tax issues linked to a previous owner and significant foundation damage that threatened to derail the renovation. Rather than abandoning the site, Collins coordinated county-wide support to clear the legal hurdles, managed structural repairs, and personally financed a new HVAC system. The work was finished just before the husband passed away, providing the family with the security he had sought to leave behind.

This dedication earned Collins the annual PuroClean Cares Award, presented at the company's international convention. Beyond this specific project, his history in Lee's Summit includes five years of service on the executive board of Lee's Summit Social Services and providing office space for local library collections. His consistent involvement in the community, including membership in the local Rotary and Chamber of Commerce, mirrors his professional commitment to disaster remediation. Steve White, President of PuroClean, noted that the award recognizes individuals who intervene during a family’s most difficult moments, a standard Collins met through his persistent, hands-on approach to local service.
