Zakay Law Group Files Class Action Over Missed Breaks at Northstar Energy
A San Diego labor law firm has initiated a class action lawsuit against The Jankovich Company and Northstar Energy, alleging a systemic failure to provide mandatory meal and rest periods. The complaint, filed in San Diego County Superior Court, claims these workplace violations deprived staff of essential breaks and legally required compensation.

The lawsuit, Case No. 26CU034149C, contends that employees were routinely required to remain on-call during designated off-duty periods. According to the filing, staff members were frequently interrupted to complete tasks, often working shifts exceeding five or ten hours without receiving the legally mandated second meal break. These practices allegedly forced employees to forfeit their rest time without additional pay, in direct contradiction to California Labor Code standards.
Beyond the allegations concerning meal and rest breaks, the suit outlines broader claims regarding wage and hour discrepancies. The plaintiffs assert that the companies failed to provide accurate itemized wage statements, neglected to pay overtime and minimum wages, and did not reimburse staff for necessary business expenses. Attorney Jackland Hom is representing the class, with the firm seeking to address what they characterize as an established corporate policy of withholding earned compensation and rest time from the workforce.
