Report: Israel Replaced Civilian Aid with 'Architecture of Starvation'

As global authorities confirm a catastrophic famine in Gaza, a new investigation by Forensic Architecture and the World Peace Foundation reveals how Israel has systematically dismantled the established civilian aid distribution network, replacing it with a militarized system that turns essential food points into lethal hazards for Palestinians.

The report, titled The Architecture of Genocidal Starvation in Gaza, argues that the current humanitarian crisis is not a collateral consequence of war but a deliberate policy. Researchers detail how Israel has destroyed agricultural infrastructure and civil society, forcing the population into a state of total dependence on a restricted, military-controlled ration system.

Central to this strategy is the operation of four ration stations managed by the US-based Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, all situated within active military zones. These sites have become scenes of repeated violence, with at least 850 people killed or wounded while attempting to secure food. Evidence from IDF whistleblowers and former US military personnel suggests that soldiers have been ordered to fire on crowds of aid-seekers who posed no clear security threat.

Beyond direct attacks, the report highlights that aid is being used as a tool for displacement. With over 58 evacuation orders issued and aid centers frequently inaccessible or open for mere minutes, the infrastructure is effectively designed to fracture Palestinian society. Alex de Waal, executive director of the World Peace Foundation, noted that this is the most minutely designed instance of state-led starvation since World War II. This documentation further supports ongoing genocide cases at the International Criminal Court, where officials including Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant face scrutiny for the use of food as a weapon of war.
