Partiful’s Quest to Replace the Facebook Event
One hundred dollars buys eight pounds of glitter, ten pizzas, or a "sour candy salad" for a college birthday party. For Ayla D’Silva, that budget was provided by Partiful, a startup paying student ambassadors to move social planning away from fragmented group chats and onto their proprietary event-hosting interface.

Founded in 2019, the platform operates in a space long dominated by the decaying infrastructure of Facebook events. By removing the pressure of ticket metrics and formal RSVP quotas, the app has gained traction through pure word-of-mouth growth. D’Silva, who utilized the platform throughout her college years, notes that the service solved the pervasive uncertainty of not knowing which guests would actually materialize at a gathering.
Functionally, Partiful offers little that isn't already available elsewhere, yet it has captured a specific aesthetic niche. The app leans heavily into Y2K nostalgia, featuring neon typography and meme-heavy templates that mimic early 2000s music compilations. This visual identity distinguishes it from the clinical design of legacy platforms, effectively turning the act of sending an invitation into a piece of digital ephemera.
