Isar Aerospace to build dedicated launch complex at Spaceport Nova Scotia
German space firm Isar Aerospace has finalized a contract with Maritime Launch Services to establish a dedicated launch site at Spaceport Nova Scotia. Signed during the NATO Summit in Ankara, the agreement aims to bolster Canada’s independent orbital access while scaling Isar’s global infrastructure for its Spectrum launch vehicle.

The project represents a strategic pivot for both companies, moving from initial intent to active development. Under the agreement, Isar Aerospace will utilize the Nova Scotia site to conduct orbital missions, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026. The companies are targeting the first orbital flight for 2028, with the facility eventually supporting up to 40 launches annually by 2029. To manage the expansion, the German firm has established a dedicated Canadian subsidiary, Isar Aerospace Canada Inc.
Maritime Launch Services will provide the necessary infrastructure, including assembly, integration, and testing facilities, alongside a launch operations center. The contract spans a 10-year term, with options for renewal, and includes a structured payment schedule of US$3.75 million quarterly, following an initial 30-month fee waiver period. This partnership aligns with a broader industry shift as NATO-aligned nations seek to reduce reliance on third-party providers for defense and intelligence satellite deployment. The deal remains subject to final milestones, including site handover and infrastructure completion by late 2027.
