MultiDimension Technology Unveils Ultra-Low Power Dual-Axis Sensor

MultiDimension Technology has launched the TMR1228D, a dual-axis magnetic switch IC designed for continuous, always-on detection in smart utility meters and industrial motion control. By leveraging Tunneling Magnetoresistance technology, the sensor achieves high sensitivity at 1.5μA per axis, bypassing the limitations of traditional duty-cycled power methods.

The TMR1228D integrates TMR sensing elements with CMOS circuitry to provide consistent digital output signals. Operating at ±5 Gauss, the device allows for greater mechanical flexibility, including the use of smaller magnets and wider air-gaps. Its ability to provide quadrature A/B outputs enables precise tracking of speed, direction, and position in both rotary and linear systems.

Unlike standard Hall-effect switches that rely on intermittent sampling, the TMR1228D maintains constant vigilance, eliminating the risk of missed detection events. The component operates within a voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and sustains performance in temperatures from -40°C to +125°C. For systems requiring higher magnetic thresholds, the company also offers the TMR1222D, which maintains the same 3x3x0.75mm DFN8L footprint to ensure compatibility across diverse design configurations.
