Campus Makes Applied AI Core to Every Associate Degree
Workers with AI skills earn 56% more than their peers, yet many traditional colleges lag in curriculum updates. Campus, an online institution backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is shifting the model by mandating a six-course Applied AI Concentration across all its associate degree programs in business, healthcare, and technology.

The expansion marks a significant push to move beyond general AI literacy toward industry-specific proficiency. Students in business, information technology, and healthcare administration will now complete 24 credits focused on AI-assisted data analysis, document processing, and the development of custom AI tools. According to Tade Oyerinde, founder and Chancellor of Campus, the goal is to teach students how to redesign professional processes to achieve a tenfold increase in efficiency.
"General AI literacy is table stakes now; every employer expects it," said professor Jeff Eyet, the program's director. "What separates candidates is whether they can apply AI to the specific problems their industry faces." To prove these capabilities to recruiters, students build portfolios using platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, alongside technical tools such as GitHub and Jupyter notebooks. This practical focus arrives as data from Microsoft and LinkedIn indicates that 66% of hiring managers now bypass candidates lacking AI proficiency. Applications for the upcoming Fall term remain open until September 18.
