OnePlus Exits the US Market After Eight Years
After an eight-year run defined by cult-like early success and a subsequent slow fade from retail shelves, OnePlus has officially exited the United States. The departure marks the end of a turbulent attempt to transition from a niche online darling to a mainstream carrier-backed powerhouse in the American smartphone market.

The brand’s decline was signaled by its eroding retail presence long before today’s announcement. T-Mobile stopped carrying OnePlus flagship models after 2022, relegating the brand to its budget-tier Nord line, while Verizon ended its brief two-year partnership in 2021. Despite the recent critical success of the OnePlus 15 and the foldable OnePlus Open, the company could not regain its former momentum. Rumors of a total US dismantling had been circulating since January, though the company initially denied the claims.
OnePlus originally built its reputation on community-driven enthusiasm and online-only sales, creating a loyal following that viewed its devices as the gold standard for value. The pivot to US carrier partnerships in 2018 proved to be a structural turning point that the company ultimately failed to navigate. While its hardware improved significantly over the years, the shift away from its direct-to-consumer roots left it unable to compete with entrenched giants in a market that had clearly moved on.
