Conestoga Reopens Small Cap Fund After Eight-Year Closure

After an eight-year hiatus, the Conestoga Small Cap Fund has reopened to new investors, signaling the firm’s belief that current market conditions offer the most attractive entry point for high-quality small-cap growth stocks in over a decade.

The fund, which carries the ticker symbols CCALX and CCASX, had been closed to most new capital since 2018. Conestoga Capital Advisors, based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, implemented that restriction to protect existing shareholders and manage capacity. Following a comprehensive review of assets and market dynamics, the firm concluded that the strategy now has sufficient room to accommodate new investors without compromising its long-term investment process.

Co-Founder and Co-Portfolio Manager Bob Mitchell described the decision as an investment choice rather than a marketing move. He noted that recent market leadership has been unusually narrow, heavily favoring lower-quality, high-beta companies. This trend has left many fundamentally sound businesses with strong balance sheets and durable earnings growth trading at historically attractive valuations. Managing Partner Derek Johnston echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the firm’s focus remains on business fundamentals rather than short-term market fluctuations. Conestoga continues to manage over $5.4 billion in assets, maintaining a philosophy centered on conservative growth and downside protection.
