New Chemotherapy-Free Lymphoma Therapy Listed on Australian PBS

The listing, effective August 1, 2026, marks the first time in nine years that a new therapy for this specific condition has been reimbursed under the scheme. Follicular lymphoma remains the second most common form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Australia, affecting approximately 10,000 people, with roughly 1,500 new diagnoses recorded annually.

Clinical evidence from the Phase 3 inMIND trial supported the rollout, demonstrating a 57% reduction in the risk of disease progression, relapse, or death compared to standard regimens. Associate Professor Philip Thompson of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre noted that while the disease is often slow-growing, it frequently recurs, making subsequent treatments progressively less effective. This new immunotherapy, distributed by Specialised Therapeutics, offers a targeted approach by utilizing the patient’s immune system to identify and eliminate malignant B-cells. Patients are now eligible for the subsidized treatment following authorization by their healthcare providers.
