Tampa General Hospital Retains Top Regional Ranking for 11th Year

The rankings highlight Tampa General’s expanding influence, placing it sixth overall in Florida and marking it as the highest-ranked facility on the state's west coast. Beyond the regional title, the hospital achieved national top-50 status in five areas: gastroenterology and GI surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, diabetes and endocrinology, and pulmonology and lung surgery. The latter category marks the first time the specialty has cracked the national top 50.

John Couris, president and CEO of the Florida Health Sciences Center, attributed the success to a collaborative effort between hospital staff and their academic partner, the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. "This recognition belongs to every person across our organization—from those caring for patients at the bedside to those supporting our teams behind the scenes," Couris said. The institution also received "High Performing" ratings in 15 specific procedures and conditions, a designation that U.S. News uses to identify hospitals that outperform national thresholds.

Charles J. Lockwood, dean of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, noted that the partnership remains central to the hospital’s ability to translate research into daily clinical practice. Beyond the main campus, the system's growth is reflected in the performance of TGH Crystal River, which earned a high-performing rating for knee replacement. U.S. News analyzed nearly 4,500 hospitals for this year's report, utilizing data from over 800 million patient records to evaluate outcomes ranging from mortality rates to patient experience.
