The transaction, which closed on July 1, involved the sale of Cumberland’s FDA-approved brands for $100 million in cash, supplemented by $11 million for inventory and transition services. Following the divestment, the company’s Board of Directors authorized a special cash dividend of $1.50 per share, paid on July 31, 2026. CEO A.J. Kazimi stated that the move unlocks capital while allowing the company to retain its core development pipeline and a majority stake in Cumberland Emerging Technologies.

Cumberland is now prioritizing late-stage clinical programs, most notably its ifetroban research. Recent data presented at the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy conference showed that ifetroban treatment may help mitigate heart muscle injury in Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients. Additionally, the company reported promising safety results from a Phase 2 study investigating the drug as a potential therapy for preventing cancer metastasis in solid tumors. Financially, the company reported a net loss of $4.1 million for the second quarter, reflecting its ongoing pivot toward long-term research and development efforts.
