Ring Refreshes Peephole Camera with 2K Resolution
Priced at $99.99, Ring’s latest Peephole Cam 2K offers a wire-free upgrade for apartment dwellers and renters who cannot drill into their doors. This successor to the 2019 Door View Cam replaces standard optics with high-definition video, aiming to simplify home security installation without compromising on image clarity.

The device splits into two distinct units connected through the existing peephole. The exterior hardware houses the camera, speaker, and microphone, while the interior component contains the electronics and a removable battery rated for 120 days of operation. Unlike its predecessor, this model prioritizes a slimmer profile and higher 2K resolution, though it abandons the internal preview screen in favor of mobile app integration and smart display compatibility.
Users gain access to a 140-degree field of view with customizable motion detection zones designed to ignore non-essential activity like street traffic. While the hardware provides real-time alerts, advanced capabilities—such as 180-day cloud storage for recorded events and specialized package detection—remain locked behind the optional Ring Protect subscription service. Preorders are currently open, with shipping scheduled to begin later this month.
